Paediatricians with Expertise in Cardiology Specialist Interest Group

Dr Sandeep Kapoor is Consultant Paediatrician with Expertise in Paediatric Cardiology and Allergy at NHS Humber Health Partnership (Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Trust). His was Chair of Yorkshire & Humber Congenital Cardiac Network Board from its inception (2018) till 2024. He is also former associate member of the Congenital Heart Disease Clinical Reference Group and reviewer for CHD Network quality assurance visits.

Dr Sajeev Job neonatologist, PEC, retrieval consultant and clinical lead for neonatal ODN was pivotal in developing cardiology services in the northeast (Teesside) in 2015. He delivers both hemodynamic and cardiac input and has had successful innovation & QI projects including project RoPeS, Routine Pulse Oximetry screening of the newborn (40 % postnatal pulse oximetry screening at the start of the project 17+1 hospitals to a 100 % uptake at the end of the project).

Dr Mark Fenner is a full time paediatrician with expertise in Cardiology at Nottingham Children's Hospital. This large teaching hospital keeps him very busy with lots of outpatient, intensive care and emergency work. He has been a member of PECSIG since starting his cardiology training more than a decade previously. Having originally supported the organisation to develop an online presence he continues to support this new, updated version.

Dr Prakash Dey is consultant Paediatrician based at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is the lead clinician with expertise in Cardiology. He is serving in NHS nearly 2 decades and has been delivering Paediatric Cardiology service for Buckinghamshire hospitals. He has been part of the PECSIG executive team for more than 10 years being Treasurer and Organising Secretary for summer conference in 2012. He contributed significantly toward the PEC SPIN curriculum, which was approved by RCPCH, London. He has taken the lead role for PECSIG Digital transfer.

Dr. Sudeep Shrestha is a Paediatric Trainee in the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Deanery, pursuing the SPIN curriculum in Paediatric Cardiology as part of his journey to achieving a CCT in General Paediatrics with expertise in Cardiology. He is committed to advancing his knowledge in paediatric cardiology, including echocardiography, and managing paediatric heart disease. Dr Shrestha holds a PG Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Sussex and has led the development of a regional hybrid PoCUS program for KSS paediatric trainees.

Mais is a paediatric registrar in Yorkshire and Humber with a specialist interest in paediatric cardiology particularly congenital heart diseases, and passionate about quality improvement. She's currently leading on a regional project tackling health inequalities and health literacy as part of her Leadership OOPE program. She is actively involved in research on paediatric cardiac MRI and is pursuing a Medical Education PGCert from the University of Manchester. As the founder and chair of the PECSIG trainee forum, she is committed to fostering equitable training opportunities and advancing cardiology education through innovative teaching and mentorship.

Dr Venu is widely known for his interest in clinical cardiology as well as teaching and training. He has participated in over a dozen clinical research projects, and authored around 100 Medline indexed publications, and several chapters in the online Medscape Textbook of Pediatrics. He is also a Senior Examiner and Examiner trainer at the RCPCH. He is the Course director for online and face to face ECG, Echocardiography and POCUS courses.

Dr. Bikash Bhojnagarwala is a consultant neonatologist with a focus on neonatal and paediatric cardiology. Certified in congenital heart disease echocardiography, he has expertise in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for lung, line, and heart assessments, integrated hemodynamics, and structural CHD. Dr. Bhojnagarwala provides care to neonatal and pediatric patients across all age groups with rhythm and underlying cardiac disorders and leads pediatric cardiology services at Medway.

Dr Vikranth Venugopalan is a Consultant Neonatologist with expertise in Paediatric Cardiology and is the Honorary Chair for PECSIG (Paediatricians with expertise in Cardiology Special Interest Group). Taken keen interest to move PECSIG forward and been involved with the training on POCUS and ECHO courses. Our mission statement for PECSIG “All members to embrace power of PECSIG to be creative and innovative”.
