Information on Symptoms (e.g. heart murmurs)
The Newborn Baby Check
All babies in the UK should receive a full examination in the first 72 hours of life and again at 6- 8 weeks. This examination looks at the whole child but should particularly focus on the heart, eyes, hips and (in boys) testes. The heart examination includes listening to your babies heart beat and feeling the babies pulses in the groin. If there is even a low level of concern the professional examining your child will ask a senior paediatrician to review the child. It is not uncommon to hear a murmur or extra heart noise in the first few days of a babies life often these disappear on their own but don't worry once it is found your baby will have a full review.
